Haiku Moment: playtime

i often wonder

why the couch looks like this-yikes-

playtime strikes again

playtime by Angie Quantrell

inspiration: Monet, destroyer of couch and assorted other household locations

I woke up one morning composing this haiku in my head. I was literally playing with words and counting out lines while I was in that between fully asleep and fully awake stage. That’s never happened before. I grabbed for my phone to take notes before my eyes were even fully open. LOL. My honey thought something was wrong, I grabbed the phone so fast.

Have you ever sleep-dreamed a poem or story idea?

Monet would like to know. And wonders if you have a couch she can destroy, or at the least, rearrange.

I live with my husband and crazy kitty. Much of my time is spent writing, reading, and playing with the grands. You can usually find me sipping tea or coffee, nibbling on dark chocolate, and contemplating what to plant next in the garden. If not those pursuits, then I am probably trying to figure out how to cook and live in an RV, creating cards with rubber stamps, walking, hiking, or out snapping photos with my camera.

I actually sleep dreamed the entire premise and main character of my novel in verse WISHES, DARES, AND HOW TO STAND UP TO A BULLY. Wrote 4 pages on a legal pad before getting out of bed so I wouldn’t forget anything. After a long dry spell in terms of story ideas, it felt like Devine Intervention.

    Such fun!
And yes, I dreamed a story idea! It was How The Fairy Found Her Wings. But in the dream, I also had sold the story to a publisher! So I woke up all happy and excited but quickly deflated when I realized I didn’t have a story written OR a sale. I tried writing that story immediately, but it just didn’t work. Finally, it morphed into another fairy picture book that I have tried to sell to publishers for years – without success. So that dream did not come true! But when students at school visits ask me where I get my ideas from, I tell them sometimes they come to me in dreams. And maybe Fairy Farm will finally sell one day…

Oh, what a letdown! How perfect if you had had it sold when you woke up! I hope your fairy story sells! I have one I’ve been sending out into the world too (a fairy story)…to no avail. YET. We shall keep on trying!!
